Bakhchisaray

Today, A and I had a fun excursion to Bakhchisaray. It is a town nearby that if you blink, you would miss it. You literally turn down a dirt road and wind up in a beautiful town that is nestled in the mountains.  Bakhchisaray is the political and cultural center of the Crimean Tatar people. A's friend L's parents James and Jamie joined us today...such a treat!

Our first stop in Bakhchisaray was the children's park. There is an exhibit this month there called "Miniature Crimea" and takes you through all of the monuments and significant sites of Crimea.

Mini plane...Air Onix is the airline Ryan left on last week
Train Station...known for it's clock tower
Swallow's Nest!! Looks just like the real one

Next we went to the Khan's Palace. The Khan's Palace was built in the 16th century and became home to a succession of Crimean Khans. It is a Muslim palace, and is the oldest palace in Ukraine that is still in its original state. Most of the other palaces have had to be restored due to wars and conflicts, but the Khan Palace has never been destroyed. Included on the grounds are a cemetery, mosque, living quarters, and beautiful gardens. It truly was such a beautiful place with the cliffs in the background...breathtaking!

After the Khan Palace, we visited the Cave Monastery. The monastery is literally carved out of the side of a cliff. It is still in use today, and the age of the monastery is disputed. Some say it was built in the 8th century, while others say the 15th century. Either way, it is absolutely gorgeous...pictures do not do it justice!!

A and I ended the day with dessert at my favorite dessert place Ciao! A got a Happy Face Panda Ice Cream Sundae, and I enjoyed an apple cheesecake and latte.

I have truly been blown away by the beauty of Ukraine. I never would have dreamed there were all of these stunning places to visit. I am very thankful to be able to share these places with A!
