Sevastopol and Balaklava

Today we went on another fabulous excursion with Angelina as our tour guide. James, Jamie, and L came with us as well. Our first stop was Sevastopol. Sevastopol is home to the second largest port in Ukraine, and is a huge Naval hub for both Ukraine and Russia. It is an absolutely gorgeous city on the coast of the Black Sea.

We enjoyed walking around the board walk and the sites and sounds of the street vendors. We grabbed a bite to eat at a restaurant called Mojito. I ordered an Asian dish...rice with vegetables, to which the waitress told me that they used frozen vegetables and that I shouldn't order it. There aren't many waitresses I can think of that would tell a customer what NOT to order:) I settled on a Chicken Caesar Salad and bread instead.

After lunch we grabbed coffee and cookies at a coffee shop, and then hopped on board a gondola-type boat to take a tour around the port of Sevastopol. Apparently, our group was being too loud for one of the other boat riders, and she asked us to be quiet in rapid fire Russian. We just pretended as though non in our group understood Russian, and proceeded with our conversation:) A and L jumped on the very front of the boat, and enjoyed the views from the platform.

From Sevastopol, we headed to a nearby town called Balaklava. It has actually recently been incorporated into Sevastopol. Balaklava is nestled between mountains and an inlet of the Black Sea. On the mountains, you can see the remains of the Genoese fortress. It is home to a formally classified underground submarine base. We did not tour the submarine base, but did see it from the boardwalk. There is a yacht club in Balaklava as well, and we saw a ton of pretty yachts and sailboats. There were a lot of street artists painting the boats, as well as a couple of street performers that were quite entertaining to watch:)

Tomorrow we will go to church...I am super excited about going to my first Ukrainian church service! Tomorrow afternoon A wants to go to the circus. Looking forward to a low key day. I am at the 2 week mark of being gone. I am hoping that we will be heading home 2 weeks from today. This next week is going to be busy with getting paperwork and travel documents ready. Please pray that there are no delays in getting A's passports printed. She has to have 2 new ones made and the printing time of them is our biggest unknown at this point. Thank you in advance for your prayers!
